What do you mean by 'found'? Have you tried to locate the owner?

It has been left in lost property at work for months, cannot locate owner,.
Last time someone I knew took home a similar item in similar circumstances, he was sacked for it because the owner came in to claim it a couple of days after he took it.

Well I am in charge of lost property here and I do not intend to just take it. I merely asked how it works. It will still remain here in lost property just in case someone comes to collect it.

i lost my silver ipod in Lithuania, so if you are there it's mine, i have now however bought a new one, so you can keep my old one, and i have a spare lead to attach it to your computer, which will charge it, send me your address, [email protected] and i will post it to you

Hmm that's worrying, someone asking for another person's address!
You need a computer with iTunes installed and an iPod connector/usb cable. This will recharge the iPod if it had not been used for months, and, via the computer, show you in iTunes, what music is on it. If the iPod owner has been clever, it may even be named so as the owner can be traced
