If it's based in England, you could look up Companies House &/or contact HMCE.

(At least you have the Co. No., which will make it easier for you).

HMRC will not tell you another company's vat number no matter how nicely you ask them.

Companies House not only won't tell you but would have no reason to know themselves what it is.

According to Companies House (publicly available info) the Company is dormant anyway with no accounts filed to date and is proposed for being struck off as the accounts are more than five months overdue. I'd be fairly surprised if it was ever registered for VAT. Do you know for a fact that it was? If so, and you have a legitimate reason for needing to know then write to them and ask.

Thinking on Attilio - when you say you've 'forgotten' the VAT Registration Number for this company, isn't there anyone you know that would have an old invoice with it on?

P.S. Just for the record, I checked Companies house & it shows that they were only incorporated in July 2006, so didn't last very long.

Hope they haven't left too many clients high & dry....
