My laptop has 80gb HDD the C drive is saying its full at nearly 30gb mostly due to my iTunes folder being over 20gb. i don't want to delete this as presume it won't be on my itunes so when i synchronise my iPod most of the music and videos will not be on my iPod.

Whats the best way to deal with this?

Also what i the D drive used for as this still has free space on it.

the d drive is meant to be used for storing things, like your Itunes music.

move your tunes to the D drive

Thankyou for quick resonse.............will do that now.

Excellent.
You say you have an 80GB HDD but then say its full at 30GB . When you open my computer what does it say below C: ?
- will be x.xx GB free of x.xxGB .
The D: drive will probably be a recovery partition , should be named this . This is to restore your laptop to factory specs if needed & as such should not be touched

Also thankyou for quick response

I must type slower and check before submitting
There were no answers when I started typing - Chuck , much as I hate to doubt your expertise but could D: not be recovery ?

Billysugger........when i open up my computer i click on c drive then right click and properties and it says 33.6gb used of 35 gb

whether this matters i don't know Its an Acer Aspire 5044WLMi and when i open up my computer it has

ACER(C)
ACERDATA(D)
Billy, that would be a 50Gb recovery partition.... bit much to use about 70% of a drive for a recovery partition

and also recovery partitions don't have drive letters, they are hidden partitions normally
Ahh ok , in that case sounds like I need to read questions better . Go with Chuck
Actually Chuck my recovery partition is labelled HP_RECOVERY (D:) hence my confusion

Ok both of you thanks again and i will move my iTunes stuff to the D drive...............and try and clean everything else up a bit like pictures onto cd's n stuff. I also have a 20gb external hard drive so suppose i could put some iTunes videos on there.

Its just i bought an 80gb iPod so wouldn't have to keep swapping stuff about and now with my hard disk saying it full its kind of defeated the object.
Squirtle (good nic BTW)

it is a data drive as it says in the name.

It is considered "best practice" by many, myself included, to split the drive in this way, so you can store all your personal data (pics, tunes, etc) on the data drive. This means if you get a total failure of windows then you can just wipe the system drive and reinstall without losing all your personal data.

sadly windows doesn't work like this on it's own and it requires the user to actually use the data drive. Windows will put everything on the system drive as default.

I did say normally :)
As an alternative - we got an external hard drive especially for my hubby's I-tunes collection, think it was about 50 from a computer fair for 120GB so makes my laptop run much quicker, and if you switch computers it makes it a lot easier to transfer the music!

missspeedy23.............good evening to you, i might actually invest in a larger external drive myself to store all the iTunes erm 'stuff' on.

Now this may seem a stupid question and if it is i am embarassed in advance...........(deep breath and here goes)

IF i store all my Itunes stuff on the external hard drive does it always have to be connected to the laptop for me to still have everything in the iTunes when i activate it?.........Does that make sense, what i'm asking?

Ok People i am off now to sort out my folders and files and ...........well pretty much empty a botle of wine..

I will be back online tomorrow so feel free to continue with the good work and again...........Big thanks.

Another satisfied customer.
It only needs to be connected if you want to add any more music or you want to connect your ipod.

If I forget to connect it first it automatically changes the default folder back to the C drive but as long as you remember to change it back it will sync no prob! If not you get loads of little x's saying the file cannot be located.
Acutally meant to say exclamation marks, not x's!!
