people in india were shaving their hair off for religious sacrificial and economic purposes. Although in Russia people were cutting their hair for financial gain. Even though there is a massive market for this, it seems to be another example of western materialism, consumerism and a step backwards for women in a sense. Although people in UK don't cut their hair off for financial gain, it is sad that some people have to/choose to do so. What else will be reduced to commodity?is this a case of women exploiting women in a narrow sense?

I had a friend at school(many,many years ago) who had waist length hair,she decided she wanted it cut short as washing and drying it took her hours.The hairdresser who cut it not only did it for free,he also paid her for the hair he cut off!
