My throat symptoms. [Diagnose if you can:)]

Okay, well a couple of nights ago I felt really unwell. My head hurt, my face hurt, my back, chest, belly and throat as well. I had been waking up on a practically hourly basis and really struggled to breath as I could only take small, noisy breaths and when I attempted a big one to catch up it hurt.
I dosed up on paracetamal and have done so for the last couple of days. I have been feeling generally unwell and have a much smaller appetite.
The above basically continued since then and I looked in the mirror about 10 minutes ago to see how my throat looked because it remains quite sore when I noticed first my swollen, red tonsils, especially the one on 'my' left which also had a whitish...substance... on it. I'm pretty much a hypochondriac, I kinda freaked. The left tonsil is also the one that hurts when I swallow.
Anyway, I popped on to google and came up with Strep throat, the images however looked very different from what I saw in the mirror and I am missing a couple of the symptoms/
Is there anything else I could possibly have? or am I just in the early/light stages? am I just making a mountain out of a molehill?
Thankyou, any advice will be gratefully received

Please do not worry, the internet is quite correct in that i could be a strep. tonsillitis, quinsy or perhaps glandular fever. Nothing life threatening, but you may need antibiotics from your GP to rfesolve this.
you could have chlamydia in your throat
Bednobs, she admits to being a hypochondriac and he thought of chlamydia in the throat will send her over the top.
Chlamydial tonsillitis is as common as Rocking Horse manure.
I didn't know you could get chlamydia in your throat! Well I learned something today :-)

I think I can be fairly safe in the knowledge that it is not chlamydia. I hope.:)

I just called my step mum to ask her and she said that my 10 month old sister has had tonsilitis this last week so I gather it is tonsilitis and it's her I've contracted it from. What a little ray of sunshine. Guess I should get down to the pharmacists. Is a specific antibiotic required or do they all basically do the same job? as I should have some in the cupboard anyway, would that work?

Thank you all.
You need to go to your GP to get the right antibiotic prescribed not just something you have in stock,
daffy654 for all intents and purposes you can't
Go get some antibiotics. It sounds like you have a nasty dose of flu, a chest infection and tonsillitis. Bed rest and lots of fluids for you. Don't eat too much either- you have a reduced appetite for a reason; your body is trying to fix and repair itself, and digesting food takes up 70% of our energy. You will get better faster if you avoid food and just go for lots of fluids- hence why we lose our appetites when ill.

Scarlett I didn't eat anything the first day so I felt close to fainting a couple of times, what would be advised to eat?
Salads?
What foods are easy to digest?
Thank you

Of course you must eat, whatever you fancy and can swallow. If you don't feel like eating then don't. Scarlett is correct, but ill in bed what else can you expend your energy on?
Eat what you feel like eating! I find that when I have the flu I crave things like fish fingers and crap- comfort food probably. Salads are the last thing on your mind. Listen to your body and eat what you feel you need, but nothing too heavy. Hence- chicken soup is always a winner for invalids!

I don't eat meat and soup is devil juice :)
I settled for fruit salad and orange and mango juice.
Called the doctor, apparently I should be over it in the next few days as it sounds viral rather than bacterial [I think].
So I guess I'm riding this one out.
Might put a dampner on Halloween parties though :(

Swollen glands perhaps?
