Sage accounting course

I've applied for this part time course at college to meet new people and gain more confidence mostly but also be good to have sage accounting qualification, not that I need it for my job but look good on cv.

Problem is, I've applied for Learner Support Fund but they aren't accepting concessions, everyone has to pay �98.

Don't know if I want to pay this much for a course

If you buy sage to teach yourself (as I did) it would cost you a hell of a lot more. Sage is not a cheap package......

As I'm doing it to meet new people, but I find social interaction difficult, one of the reasons I'm having counselling, I don't know if I should wait and have the counselling first (appt on 12th Nov) or whether I should just go for it now. Course starts on 5th November and got to let college know today.

Hi karmgirl , my son bought sage and did the course on his lappy as an accountancy student . It isn't at all cheap so I think �98 is fair for your course hun. xxx

Go for it. The social interaction will be minimal to start with.

It's a good thing to have on your CV especially if it's a sage course.

What do you do now? (if you don't mind me asking)

A basic package of sage costs about �500 I think. Then you have to pay for sage support in case you have a problem.

It may have changed since I done it which was about 10 years ago.

Sage support is brilliant though. They almost done my book-keeping for me for the first 3 months.....

Doing sage will then give you better opportunities.

Thing is I don't know if I will ever use the qualification, I haven't a clue what job I want to do for the rest of my life. Main reason I'm doing it is to meet people. All the other courses I've applied for like ECDL, massage, and higher dip in admin procedures are not running.

I don't use Sage in my job either, nor do I work for an accountants, but I know there are a few admin jobs which like people to have sage now, but I'm not even sure if I want to stay in an office all my life.

After I'd got the sage qualification, if I ever was to use it I would either have to be in a job which required it or if I wanted to use it at home I would have to buy Sage anyway.

�98 may seem at lot all at one go but if you work out how much it is each session then compere the cost with say a packet of fags �5.50 or bottle of smirnoff ice in the pub �3.25 or a seat at the movies �4.75 then put it into perspective

Once you have the qualification you can apply for new jobs. Sage is the most used accountancy package.

You'll be qualified to do book-keeping and payroll. Your hourly rate will rise I'm sure. Companies want people who can use sage to keep their accountancy bills down. I used to charge �10 an hour.

Go for it......!!!

You never know whether you might use it in the future, it may open some doors for you. If nothing else it increases your options.
Maybe you need to think about whether you are using the cost to avoid the social interaction. If that is the case you may be better to wait until you get more confidence after counselling.

p.s ummmm are you an accountant then, do you enjoy it, whats the work like?

You know if I got this qualification - would I be able to do peoples accounts - its only a level 1 introduction qualification cus I thought as I 've never used Sage I should enter at this level.

No sadly not. I was just a book keeper. I ran my own businesss with my ex so learnt as needs must. The business got too big to be ran on excel. When we split up I found it really easy to get work with small businesses doing the book keeping and payroll. Varied work also. Might help with you socially as well. You have to mix but you also work on your own so might be a good combination for you.
