Can I use marbles on top of the baking parchment, I can't find any beans to put on top. Many thanks Kazzy

Not good move Kazz.
They might shatter and you might end up picking glass out of you food.
Think I've used pasta to bake blind before? Can't remember now!
Hhhhhmmmm. I never thought about pasta.
If you have dried peas they work but it's not something many people keep in the ktchens these days.
scrunched up kitchen foil would also do

but prick the pastry base and leave enough 'edge' for a wee bit shrinkage

lol! Have you got any rice? If you prick the pastry base & shake some rice on it, I think that may work? xxx

Just make sure you remember to take them out! Someone might get one stuck in their clacker!
I got baking beads from a cook shop so I don;t have to search round for dried peas.
I actually use some ancient(but really clean, honest !) chickpeas and keep them separate from the other beans and pulses in case I ever get the urge to cook them lol...
Jugglering that is exactly what I do with the chick peas that i found at the back of my cupboard and must have been so old I'm surprised they didn't sprout! Anyway I keep them in a container with the piece of parchment that I place them on and use them time and time again. No need to buy these baking beans.
I used rice the other day and it worked fine :-)
Cheeky - did you use uncooked, dried rice, then ? I can't imagine you using freshly cooked rice lol...
Try using dried beans/lentils on baking parchment. They can be re-used for same purpose.

I bought a packet of macaroni to use in my pastry cases. Any pasta or chickpeas or dried peas will do. (Line pastry with greaseproof paper and then fill with pasta.) It has been used loads of times and is now a lovely nutty brown. You only something to stop the base of the case rising up during cooking. Remove paper and pasta and return case to the oven for another 5 -10 minutes (depending on whether you will need to cook further with filling or not)
