Americans are God

or so they think! How long can the American film industry continue to change history for their own benefit? For example - U-571 - 'American submariners board german sub and capture the enigma machine'. No they didn't!!
And, hysterically, 'Pearl Harbor' was changed for Japanese distribution because it showed Japan in a bad light!!!! those nice little japanese bombers.....

I remember David Putman saying in an interview shortly after Memphis Belle was released that he originally wanted to make a film about a Lancaster Crew but no British backers (City Banks) were interested, But when he came back with the Memphis Belle script they all jumped at it.
I think if you look in the small print of the "Lend - Lease agreement", it states what all films must show the good old US of A winning the war. How must Russians must feel, 20 million dead ( and that's the conservative estimate!). At least Two/Thirds of Germany's forces were permanently committed to the Eastern Front. Most Germans viewed North Africa, Italy, Normandy etc.... as side shows

I think the point that came out after 9/11 or, as we would put it, 11/9 is that nearly 90% of all Americans have never been outside of it and when questioned never want to. Their amazed expressions when they found out that there are people that actually don't like them wsa a delight to behold.
Just thank whomever you believe in that you're not a Yank
I really did think that these sort of America bashing was not going to happen on this web site.
Its a shame i've been proved wrong as the majority of the contributions made are very helpful.
When people can learn to appreciate each others differences then the web will truly have brought us all together.
Oh and i'm not American but British and very proud of it.
I recently got an email showing Bush on a school visit. A pupil was reading a book to the class and the book in Bush's hand was upside down! About them not realising how unpopular they are, the saying 'ignorance is bliss' springs to mind. Also, when it comes to films about Vietnam I think they sometimes forget that they lost!

I dont have a problem with people posting constructive criticism, unfortunately I have yet with a few exceptions seen any in this discussion.
I am sure that Americans are fully aware of how a large percentage of the world is viewing them as this moment in time.
Perhaps a few more suggestions on how they could turn around peoples opinions rather then jumping on old bandwagons would be more constructive.
