Jim Morrison is seriously over rated in my opinion.  He was good, but there have been much better musicians and poets.  The same could be said for other musicians who died from unnatural causes.  They are made out to be better than they actually were.  Just my opinion though.
cazz218 - fear not, my husband is a huge fan. L.A. Woman is his fav song and yes he's been Paris.
I would probably agree. The Doors made some of the most origional music and Jim had a unique voice. Pere lachaise cemetery is a memorable place to visit. Just follow the continual sound of LA woman etc and the aroma of Morrocco's finest to find the lizard kings final resting place.

Haven't really listened to them that much, apart from the obvious hits they are remembered for.

To digress slightly I heard a track recently on a newspaper freebie CD.  It was a classical piece by Nigel Kennedy.  I subsequently found out he had apparently done a covers album of Doors tracks!(Yes, that's what I thought as well!).  The track on the CD was called The Unknown Soldier and whilst never having listened to the Doors original the piece by Kennedy was nothing short of superb.

Was to Paris in September....don't know if it was always so, but there is a barrier around the gravesite now and it is a LEGAL OFFENSE if you are caught trying to place things over the barrier onto the stone.

Ditto for Oscar Wilde's grave -- was able to lean over and kiss it anyway!  :)

MR MOJO RISING>>>>>>>

Yes, right up there with the best of them.

'Best of' album a must have for anyone. Just great musicians.

He deserved better than Val Kilmer!

MR Mojo-oh risinggggg

Gucci and Joey I agree and it has to be the best driving song ever. I love TouchMe.  His music was so varied, using so many styles and creating many.  He did have a good bunch of bandmembers to help tho.

Not sure if you have read 'No one Here Gets Out Alive' - a great read on him.

I changed my surname by statutory declaration to Morrison in 88. Been to Paris a few times, and his home in LA, and have a memorabillia collection of back stage passes, isle wight programme, all autographs except for Jims. I have met Robbie.
Oh and biggest regret ever, they were filming the doors movie whilst I was in LA, I had a chance to be in the whisky scenes as my friend Deanie is a extra in it but alas I was driving up to sanfransisco the same day :(

wow its great to know there are lots of other fans out there. sad to hear they have put a barrier around the grave litchick - it wasn't there when i visited so i managed to leave something 'for jim'.
a friend of mine has Jim's face tattooed on his arm.
At the time he looked like a hedonistic loser to some, look back on it now and it's someone punching his fist in the air and dancing to no one else's tune. Go Jim.
