direct debit taken early
3 Answers
My morgage is due tomorrow-3rd November.
I have to transfer money from 2nd account to cover this.
My bank has paid the direct debit at 1pm today-Sunday 2nd November,
Didnt know until my card was rejected in Tesco at 1.30pm.
I checked internet banking and it says the debit is dated 3rd.
How can this be right if the direct debit rules say that payment can only be taken on agreed date unless payment date falls over a weekend.

You'll probably find that the money has been 'reserved' rather than actually paid. Because it has to be available first thing Monday it can't be used for other purposes before then.

yes, dzug is right. Even if it does go out tomorrow tit will go out at 7.00 a.m. and there wouldn't be enough in to cover it. It's better it happened this way round- it may have been worse if your debit purchase had gone through and your mortgage payment had failed tomorrow.
