has anyone had problems with the mirena coil and hair loss

I dont know much about it maybe you should ask your doc or the practice nurse? Ive only heard about it linked with infections.

Hhhmm...interesting. For a long time my hair has been coming out by the handful whenever I wash it. I've been wondering why this is happening but I've never once associated it with having a Mirena. I'll have to look into this a bit further myself to see if there's any connection.

Read the product monograph, not the notes for patients.

I also lost alot of my hair, 2 stone weight gain and acne. I got fibroids and lost any libido I had, lets face it, fat and spotty aint gonna make you feel sexy..... got rid of it after 18 mnths.

Some women love it and some put up with the side effects and some have sued (USA).

I was not given this for heavy bleeding or anything like that. Purely for contraception.

Thanks for that link luxury. Having read all that, I think I'm going to have mine removed. I have been diagnosed diabetic since having the Mirena fitted and wasn't aware that it is not recommended for diabetics. It seems that the Mirena may be a contributing factor to my blood glucose levels never being within the normal parameters.

Personally I think that the efficacy of a Mirena coil as a contraceptive is 40% due to the device and 60% due to the fact it destroys any interest in sexual activity!

Sometimes I feel like we're all a grand experiment for the pharmaceuticals, and the 'experts'? well.... what do they know???? the fact you're diabetic and have this? I would have hoped your doc would have said mirina has to go because it's not worth the risk to your health in general.

The answer you'll probably get is something along the lines of well..... it's rare... it's not true.... I didn't know that....

So, print off the product monograph and make sure they have it for future reference.

It didn't hurt having it removed btw, very quick, but there have been cases where surgical removal by anaesthesia was needed because the strings had disappeared.
