19d. Last two of juicy sweets? (5) ?A?D? If it's candy (sweets) - 'cy' from juicy - where does the 'and' come from? Also what does 'satricial' mean in 23a. I take that clue to be 'adversary' (enemy). Thoughts would be appreciated. Many thanks.

I think itis a misprint. It should be "satirical" = Dry.

So it is an anagram of saver in a+dry.

Thanks Rollo, I thought it might be a misprint too, but still think it's a sloppy clue as I can't find any connection between satirical and dry. Also,do not like 'leant' for 'propped up' (24a), but that's me, Mr. Pedantic! You can take the teacher out of the school, but not pedant out of the teacher.

I took it to imply dry humour = satirical humour, but I know they aren't exactly the same thing.
