does anyone know what qualifications i need if i want to go to university to do a course in forensic science.

i'd go with chemistry & biology A-levels, possibly physics as well. maths would also be advantageous as it shows strong powers of logical reasoning which may be useful. if you go to www.ucas.com and navigate your way through to a list of courses, search for forensic science, then go to entry requirements & click on the type that you are taking, browse through the different unis & get a feel for it

Why do you want to do a course in forensic science?

i want to do a course in forensic science because i watch a lot of csi and i absoloutly love it, although its a bit of a career change from being a nursery officer!!!

Believe me it's not all glamour as you see on TV.

I won't go into how I know, but best thing I can suggest is you speak to your local Police Station and if's a friendly one ask to talk to the SOCO team and see if you can spend a day with them....Chances are you'll be a bit bored so take a good book!

You can get no where in life without passion and you cannot base your assumptions on anything other than experience, and some glamour at that. CSI and stuff like that DO reflect some of what goes on, using a very unusual skill to track down baddies IS cool, and CAN be exciting.

The only other point is that the actual form a job might take may not be totally to your liking, and most importantly may not fully exploit the best of your skills. I find that I enjoy most that which I do best at. I always wanted to fly planes after I saw Topgun...never got there. But I bet there are a few up in the air today who thought of it when they saw topgun! Follow your dreams, but just make sure it's something you'll really enjoy.

You will need top grades in Chemistry, Maths and Biology or Physics. Career openings as forensic scientists are limited but most degree courses are designed so that you are also well qualified in general analytical chemistry. Good luck.
