How does one work out the cost of running a 400 watt heater for an hour? Thanks in anticipation

That's 0.4 of a kilowatt for one hour, so 0.4kWh.

I unit (= 1kWh) of electricity typically costs around 15p (or slightly less on some tariffs), so that gives us 0.4 x 15p = 6p.

you electricity is worked out in KWh (killowatts an hour). which is the cost of using one kilowatt (1000wats) of electricity for one hour.

so if your electricity cost you 10pence per KWh unit it would cost 10p to run a 1killowatt heater for one hour.

So your 400w heater will cost you 4p an hour

another thing is what/where you are using it

when I was a stooodent we had electric heaters in our flat - I slept in the attic (complete with old woman in rocking chair)

and it was bl@@dy cold up there - even in summer - my leccy cost about 10000 times more than the rest of the house put together
