My Grandaughter is coming to stay with me from Australia, not sure how long for. She was born in the UK, went to Oz at the age of 7yrs, became an Australian Citizen when she was 11yrs, she is now 18 1/2. Reason for her visit is to get away from an abusive boyfriend. She says she will be staying for at least 6 months, my question is can she work in the UK , or will she have to get a work premit ? prior to working.

Depends how she is travelling over here. Is she travelling on an ancestral visa-people can qualify for this if they have parents or granparents born in ths country. In certain cases, depending on status, people can even travel to this country and stay for up to three months without a visa. She might even need to apply for a work permit. It all depends on her status, that is key. You will have to find out if she has dual citizenship, if she does it will be much easier for her.
My cousin was in this situation a few years ago. Unless, things have changed she's entitled to British citizenship as she was born in Britain and she's entitled to all the perks of looking for a job etc My cousin was even offered accomodation and he was only on holiday but reaping in the benefits... I was gutted!!
