Does he like me back...?

I'm starting to really like this guy at college who's doing my course.
I may be imagining it, but we seem to glance at each other every so often when we are in our academic group (there are 8 of us) (not 8 on the course, just in our group!). Anyway, since we only met like a week ago it's obviously hard to judge.
A huge load of us got the bus the other day, and when we got off I was close to him and I cracked a joke which he found funny! Then it came to a point where we had to cross the street, and he crossed ahead of me then got to the other side and turned round and waited for me, then we walked together.
Also, at a party we were dancing together, holding hands etc, but a part of the way through the party i was feeling quite miserable about things happening at home, and so I was sitting mainly minding my own business and probably looking quite miserable. I tried starting conversation with him, but he didn't seem very interested, but could this maybe just have been because it was obvious that I wasn't in the best of moods?
How can I work out if he likes me back?

I think that you should work on getting to know him for a while, and work it out slowly. It's just my opinion, nothing concrete, but the relationships that last the longest are based on much more than physical attraction, butterflies, or liking someone's personality. But I'm not you, so really the best thing you can do for yourself is to be yourself. Also, it depends on what kind of guy you want. Do you want to have to guess what he's feeling/thinking all the time(?) or do you want someone who's up front and takes charge (?). There's really no right/wrong answer, just go with your instinct as long as it's not declaring your love for him in the middle of class!! ;)
