DVD Recorder

[Cornish Boy]

Just bought dvd recorder dvd+rw

works well with tv and dv camcorder....but the recorded disc does not play on old dvds player

was hoping it would and also to share with family

it is dvd should it work on other players??

What brand/model is it?

DVD+RW are not so compatible.  It's best to use DVD+R or DVD-R (if your recorder can use them).  The only downside is that these are record once only DVD's.

Lots of DVD players don't play home made discs, unfortunately. They are coming on more and more though. Most homes have a PC with DVD too now, and these should play them. I've been in similar situation, just a bummer. Something to watch for when you're buying a player.

A dvd player which plays copies or downloaded discs will be SVCD or VCD - look for it on the box.

netibiza,VCD  SVCD are not the same as DVD+R/RW discs.You cannot put VCD or SVCD on DVD discs.You can only burn to VCD or SVCD using the 700mb CD-R/RW discs.If Cornoish Boy went out and bought a DVD player which plays VCD and SVCD,it will still not play his DVD+RW unless his machine is DVD+RW compatible.It sounds as though some of his family have DVD players that are not DVD+RW compatible.

Just seen a sony player that does dvd+rw   dvd-rw   jpeg

vcd cd  etc; so take it if had this would play my recordings and most others if from different recorders.

should take teak36 with me shopping...seems to know much more about these things.
