Wrong to wear Fur?

What do you all think. Is it really wrong and abhorrent to wear real fur? Would anyone know if the item being worn was real fur, if you didn't tell them?

Well Inapickle. We all have individuals opinions. I personally feel more for human suffering than I do for animals. Maybe it is wrong to kill an animal purely for it's fur, but everyone has a right to believe what they want.
If I wanted to wear fur, I certainly wouldn't need to "salve my conscience" as you put it. It actually wouldn't weigh heavily on my mind at all. I was just interested to know the opinions of others and make no judgement on those opinions.

It really is not right to equate the wearing of fur with the wearing of leather. Leather shoes are seen more as a necessity, whereas fur has almost always been a luxury item. The british winter is just not cold enough to justify it on what some may call practical grounds.....unlike russia or other northern countries. Also-animals slaughtered for fur are for fur ONLY....they do not feed us...they die just for our vanity.
I don't know about special ways of storing fur coats Velvetee, but I know they shouldn't be stored under bright lights. Mine are hung up with covers over them in, in a "downstairs" annexe, and every so often, they're taken out, given a good shake and then put back again after being checked over. the temperature's always constant down there, so i don't know whether that hasd anything to do with it, but so far - no moth holes or anything untoward.
Personally, I abhor the slaughter of animals purely for their fur. As has been said before, we do not need it for warmth. The same could actually be said for meat. We do not need it to live anymore, as we have found other sources of protein and iron.
I, however, continue to eat meat, simply because it's something I enjoy. I'm trying my best to get meat from "ethical" sources though, where animals are treated as "humanly" as possible (as horrible as it may sound).
Skinning an animal for its fur only is simply disgusting. End of.
I will NEVER wear fur, even something passed down to me from my grandma (of which items there are many). It would make me retch.

Actually max - the coats I have ARE from my grandma, and there's no way I'm throwing them out. I agree with you and others in principle. Killing an animal just for its fur, to put on the back of some vain person, isn't my idea of fun., but there are individual feelings on this. Some folk see nothing wrong with it, and others don't think about, or want to think about the suffering that's been caused in the first place. Not good.
