it is a legal requirement that you need to be able to produce the current weeks worth plus the previous 15 days at the roadside if requested. failure to do so can result in a fine of about 120quid
It went up at the start of January. I think you now have to carry 28 days. I just keep the whole previous month in the truck. Oh, and don't let him fob you off with photocopies...you need the originals.
Whereas the tacho's are "technically" your employers property - they are your responsibility (as answered by a previous correspondant) whilst in your possesion.
By law - you have to carry the last 21 days + the current week's cards.
Your employer is in the wrong if he tries to send you out on the road without them.
Do not be intimidated into doing this, as the fines for failing to provide records can be as much as 1,000 per card.
By law according to the VOSA inspectors that checked me early in the year, you must always carry 28 calendar days' worth of charts. As they kindly pointed out while issuing a temporary exemption so that I could fax them through, it can carry an immediate prohibition from driving of 24 hours from the time of issue. Failure to comply could result in a fine not exeeding 5000.
Hope this helps:)
