company not being fair

Hi the company i work for has about 2000 stores on boxing day they want some of their stores to open at 8/8.30 am the other stores wont open untill 11 am is this fair in any way as some of us feel discriminated against as they seem to be putting profits first .

Profits first? - er, yes, that's what being in business about about.
Are you obliged to work on this day? - you could always take it as leave.

Is there a particular reason the store is opening that early like it's in a major city centre or in a shopping centre where most stores are opening early and they would miss out on potential trade by opening later?

If so then I can understand it as a commercial decision.

the problem is not having to work it its the fact they are treating everyone different by having different opening hours for all the shops

That's life I'm afraid. Many chains with more than one store have different opening hours. Why are you being discriminated against? You will either close earlier or earn more than the staff in shops that are opening later so I can't see the problem. Its something you have to put up with working in retail - I've got to work Christmas Eve and New Years Eve night in a shop when I would rather be in the pub but its tough, it falls on my rostered day so I will have to work it.

If you are paid hourly then you will earn more as you will work longer hours than those in the shops with shorter opening hours.

the b and q in the nearest big town to me is open till 9pm most nights, whereas the next nearest one closes at 6pm. It is quite usual for shops to have different opening hours, even in the same chain, so, no, you are not being discriminated against

Discrimination happens all the time. That's what life is about. Stop bleating about it.

It is not in itself either unfair or illegal - only in certain legally specified circumstances..
