How far in advance is Countdown recorded?

I have heard that they do the 5 episodes in one day,and do it every week.

My mother in law was on it recently.  The show was recorded on a Monday afternoon and broadcast on a Friday afternoon about 3 weeks later.

That's quite fast. Generally they record 5 a day for four days (you can tell when a block of programmes ends as Monday's contestant won't be there, and Richard doesn't announce the following week's guest). So basically they film four weeks at a time. Then that block will start going out about three weeks later (depending on their precise filming schedule).

The annoying thing is the camera changing before the last light is lit on the big clock. Only once in my life have I ever seen the last 30th glow its neon brightness close up.
