Potterton suprima PCB or valve ???
4 Answers
Hi i have a problem with my boiler (only runs for half hour or so then locking out), i've dona a lot of searching and i think its most probably the pcb's knackered (a very very very common problem with these apparantely) the only thing is is that we had someone round to look at it (he didnt seem to know much so i dont really believe he's right) and he says that it needs a new valve, i obviously dont want to waste money changing bits that dont need to be. I was wondering if anyone knows if this valve could cause the same problems as the pcb would. The only thing that i can find that supports him is that a grey box with mid positioning valve written on it seems to get quiet hot, but for all i know this could be normal or as i've read the pcb can cause problems with the valve.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help cos its getting pretty cold nowadays.

If you have a round inset reset button that is a greyish colour , you have the old pcb fitted. The new pcb will have a square black button ( which stands out a bit).If you have the old one and you have to keep resetting it, 99.9% its that is at fault. Very unlikely your mid position valve could cause this problem.
The only other problem i have had with this boiler is the gas valve , but normally they just pack up altogether.
