Fireworks and frightened dog

Not even guy fawkes night yet and already the fireworks are going off non stop...my poor dog is going mad, barking non stop and running round like a loony, its driving me insane...have thought about taking him to the vets and getting the pills that makes them drowsy, he is a medium size dog...has anyone got an idea of the cost, any rough idea will help, thanks

dont know about pills have never tried them, we draw the curtains tight and turn the tele up really loud so our lot cant hear them so much

we used to give one of ours pills which wwere meant to relax him but actually were so slow to work that it was hard to judge when to give them. Our vets now reccomends skullcap and valerian or straight tincture of valerian plus a dap diffuser..total cost is about 30 quid initially but the diffuser is reuseable and the refils are cheaper

My daughter gives her little dog Petcalm.It really calms him down when the fireworks are going off.

Thank you for all your answers! It wouldnt be so bad if it was only for one night but it just goes on and on....I dont want to sedate him, but he is gonna have a heart attack if I dont do something....Ive tried putting music on, shutting all curtains/blinds, tv on loud, but he can still here them...one year I came home and he shredded my sofas as when it starts he just wants to get his teeth into something....nightmare...

My dog used to be the same and he was sh1t scared and cowers in the corner he is not as bad now as a few years ago we got a cd of firework noises and played it and got him used to associate the noises with a treat.

Dogs think that the noise is danger and are worried for their owners and get upset because they think the noises are going to hurt their owners so the important thing is to not make a fuss and ignore it and just do as you would normally do.

Also I know this might sound a wind up but get some barks rescue remedy from the chemist it is fairly cheap and it does calm dogs down and is completely herbal just a few drops is enough and dogs seem to love the taste of it.

knobby your cabinet in the background on the left housing the dvd's or videos looks like some of the titles have been blurred to hide dodgy adult titles! haha!

Have the curtains drawn,tv on loud then unless they are very close your doggy won't be bothered . The flashing of the telly and the volume should hide them.
Keep that up until after next week-end!

P.S my previous dog was frightened and I gave her pills from the vet. They made her sleepy and droopy red-eyed but she was still shaking,so I wouldn't use them if I were you. There are a few natural remedies from the pet shop which may help if all else fails.

A friend of mine purchased a Wrap.for her dog from a firm called.www.mekuti.co.uk.she used it for the 1st time this year.and seen a marked improvement in her staffie.the dog even ate her tea while the organised display went off at the bottom of their garden .
