Is anyone else irritated by the narration on TV dramas like Little Dorrit. Everything is explained as if you can't see it. Is it done for the poor sighted viewers or is it just dumbing down?

Can't say I've noticed it. Are you watching on digital, because it could be you've inadvertantly switched on the Audio Description facility.

More information and how to switch it on/off here:

Thanks saxy_jag. I think you must be right about having the A.D turned on I will go and switch it off now. I must say it's a very good service for those with poor sight but not so good for those with 20:20 and having every move explained; Thanks again.
But isn't little Dorrit written in a first person narrative?
I haven't noticed any narration either.

The narration is in minute detail e.g; the man sits at a table, picks up a newspaper and starts to read. All of which one can see on the screen. The same type of narration is on Stephen Fry in America.
Definitely sounds like AD then. I've come across it before when I've been fiddling with the remote.

As you say, great if you can't see the screen but, like signers, irritating if you don't need them..

Hi saxy_jag I think I've found the culprit in one of the sub screnes. I'm waiting for "Little Dorrit' tonight to see if it works. Thanks again.
