Can anyone tell me if I can use an aluminum pot for making apple chutney or would I have to buy an expensive stainless steel pot? Does aluminum taint the chutney? help please

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Not knowing all the ingredients in your recipe, I'd recommend using a heavy cast iron or stainless pot. If yours, like mine contains vinegar, plus other acidic ingredients, you'll find the aluminum pot soon discolored and one site has this to say about the health concerns: "... Foods cooked in aluminum can react with the metal to form aluminum salts associated with impaired visual motor coordination and Alzheimer's disease; however there is no definite link proven."
