I bought my house in 1992, on the tenants discount
scheme, from the Forestry Commission( Ministry of Ag.
Fish, and Food, as was) .We paid cash in full at the time
of purchasefor the house. We have never received the
Deeds, since they put a Charge on them ( 100.00 )
and We think that not having a mortgage, or owing any-
thing on the house, we should not have to pay extra for
the Deeds. , The Ministry have given my Deeds to Messrs. Eversheds, who now want 117.00 to release
them. Should I pay up, or what ?

If it's freehold and not subject to any ground rent, the deeds are your property.

MAFF was replaced by Defra in the 98.
You can get a copy of Title Deeds from Land Registry

What was the charge that was put on the Deeds ? I know you have given us the amount (100) but what was it for ? It sounds like some sort of easement or right of way but it's not serious at only 117 ! You will need to discharge this before you can get the documents.
What is it you want in your deeds?

If just a copy of the title register to prove you own it, provided you are in England or Wales you can download a copy of the title here for 3.00...

Many Thanks , Folks, for your advice and suggestions,
I only need the Deeds to prove ownership when I kick the
bucket, and the Family sell the house. It is free-hold, and
there are no other conditions attached .However, my
solicitor has just given me a bill for 400. for not telling me
as much as you all have ! So I will try and hang on to the
117. I will go the jen 78 route first , then maybe talk toDEFRA direct. Cheers, Timberdog.
Sorry cant resist! MAFF was replaced by DEFRA in 2002. I remember it well!!!
