There is a road close to where I work that is 'adopted land' it serves about 10 different companies, but no one company owns it. Do they have the right to clamp you if you park in this road If so, who makes the decision to clamp if its not owned by any one company. I thimk the clamping would be unlawful

These ten companies are responsible for the costs of maintaining the road, and could technically be sued if anybody was injured on it.

They could decide between them to employ clampers and if the law is followed it is perfectly legal.
Ethel - I thought if a road is adopted it means it is maintained by the local authority. Which means it is subject to parking regulations laid down by the local authority, so the firms could not authorise clamping. If it is unadopted then the land owners could authorise clamping.
Silly moo me. You are of course quite correct, I must be having a brainstorm.

I am so used to seeing questions here about unadopted land - it is unusual to see one for adopted.

Apologies to all
Lesarmstrong - please clarify you are absolutely sure this is a public road, maintained by the council and subject to the usual public highway laws and regulations.
I suspect we are going to discover that this land is not adopted and is in fact owned by the property management company that owns the freehold of the site - the 10 different companies then either lease or rent the premises from the landlord.
The access land then of the type that Ethel mentions quite a lot in relationship to traffic violations - because the land has public access, some RT Acts apply to it, but the freehoildder has the right to constrain the vehicles that park on it.
So, yes, it can be subject to clamping.
