Hello, at the minute i have long, dark brown hair. Before i put the dark brown dye on i had blonde highlights, which have since faded. The dark brown hair dye is coming out now, and i really want to be a nice blonde colour. I can't afford to go to the hairdressers at the minute so i thought that once the dye has completely washed out, i would put on a light brown hair dye, then gradually get lighter, using it out of the box. i was wondering if anybody thought this would work or has done it before? thanksss x
It would have to 'grow' out possibly as its very hard to dye 'lighter' than the colour it is presently. I have had to go darker when I wanted to go lighter cos I have long hair too.
Maybe a more knowledgeable ABer will come up with a solution tho it may involve bleaching/stripping of the colour.
Once your hair is dyed it has been processed so further processing makes no difference to the hair, conditioning is all important to processed hair.
Lightening hair is best in a salon with professional treatments (for colour accuracy), you will need stronger strength peroxide-40v. However, off the shelf products (to save exes) can be corrected by a good stylist.
it took me a long time to get back to blonde after being dark brown, bleach (highlights} were the only way in the end then i put a dye over the top which was close to my natural blonde colour. However i did mange to lighten the dark brown by using vosene shampoo, the seemed to strip a lot of the colour out so try that for a few weeks and you should manage to get a few shades lighter without damaging your hair. I got the idea of the net, if you google it you will find plenty of people it as worked for.
