For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.hospital radio is certainly a good idea, I know of several very successful people who have gone down that route....however.... you will need to prove to the station that you are keen, not just in being on the radio, but in the philosophy of the station. they will not put you on the air for some time until they have seen how reliable you are and that you are not there for your own ego - just warning you about that!
you could try applying to local studios or production companies as a runner - this is basically the bottom wrung of the ladder - it is long hours, doing all the crappy jobs, and not for much money either. You would be more successful if you were able to offer your services for free. Be warned that in the media industries you will work very, very hard with little thanks and little monetary reward - people will expect you to be doing what you do for the passion of doing it.
Once you've made a few contacts you will get known (your reputation is everything) and people will eventually come to you.
I just thought, if there is a college/uni nearby that do student films, that might be a good idea as well, to maybe volunteer yourself as part of the crew.
