You are correct.
"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."
John F Kennedy
Jesus said, 'do unto others as you would have done to yourself' or something along those lines
I always thought it was Roosevelt.

erm kennedy - but I dont have a reference

Lordy Georgie Oh Lordy - Do as you would be done by ? that was Samuel Smiles wasnt it?

The structure is OK - pericope I think - -just in case you are thinking of passing off a gospel you have written yourself as the Real Thing. Were you thinking of Do not judge lest you be judged yourself.

have fun boys!

Don't really know what that last post by PP was about!?

I'm not disputing it was Kennedy(it was used in his inaugural speech, 1961) just that I'd got my wires crossed and for some inexplicable reason had always attributed it to Roosevelt, not JFK.

Theodore Roosevelt said: "I care not what others think of what I do,..." and rambled on a bit more.... details here http://en.thinkexist.com/quotation/i_care_not_what_others_think_of_what_i_do-but_i/297803.html

I though Kennedy said 'I am a doughnut *'?

( * - 'doughnut' is the closest translation of an item of German patisserie popular in Berlin )

He also said:

"When we got into office, the thing that surprised me the most was that things were as bad we'd been saying they were"

and

"Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names"

but most importantly (in respect of the question) he said:

"And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."
