Let's see if I can help:

The center of gravity is basically the point at which you cuold balance an object.

Take a ruler and balance it on your two outstretched fingers, bring your fingers together until you find the single point at which you can balance it. - this is the CoG.

The CoG does not actually have to be in the object itself - imagine a hoop the center of gravity is at a point in the middle - you could balance it if you had wires stretched across it
