Idle banter at work this morning. A colleague insists that when you get married, the registrar (or whoever) informs the Inland Revenue etc. I say they don't. Who is right?
If either or both parties to the marriage change their name when they are married (the woman is not legally obliged to take her husband's surname; the man can take hers, they can double barrel or retain their own names) it is their responsibility to inform the IR
