3G Wireless Internet Connection

I'm advised that some sort of password/code is advisable for wireless internet connection , in order to avoid others using my internet connection .

Can anyone provide me with an idiot proof step by step guide as to how you set up this password/code

Step 1: Ask the present Mrs Wooster what her mum was called.
Step 2: Write it down somewhere safe, such as under the bed.
Step 3: Use what's writen down as a password.

On a more serious note, its a bit more than setting up the password - your wireless router needs to be set up in encrypted mode. Have you got the manual? - it takes you through a process usually.
