Ford Escort 89 Oil/transmission water check
89 Ford Escort- dies when I stop and feels like it is going to cut out on the freeway. I want to check the oils and water myself but have no idea where to check the water? I found 2-oil sticks but one has red fluid that resembles the transmission oil stick- I am taking it in to be looked at, but need to drive it one more day - the check engine light keeps going off and on - Is it even safe to drive?

Are you talking about the US version of the Ford Escort or the European version of the Ford Escort? Both versions started out as the same car about twenty-five years ago but somewhere along the line they became totally different.
surprisingly they are very much the same under the skin, since the early 80's the erica project develped the escort as a front wheel drive sub-compact car. regardless of what car and where the facts are the same, if a warning light comes on stop and investigate unless you have absolute confidence you know what you are doing!
Yes, American with no help trying to make do - American versoion. The mechanic sd. it would have been fine to continue driving but would have died completely sooner or later. The problem was electrical...distributor and ignition module, plus the fuel injector was at 1.5 and should be a min. of 2.0. Maybe this will help someone else.
