Confused about time differences and things.....

Having never ventured into sportsbank I got a bit scared so hoped someone might be able to help me here.

Maths has never been my strong point (nor sports for that matter) and I am getting in a pickle with this....

Ricky Hatton is fighting on Saturday night in Las Vegas, the show starts on Sky at 9pm and Las Vegas is 8hours behind us. When Calzaghe fought Roy Jones Jnr last week in New York, which is five hours behind us, the show began at around 10pm but the fight didn't begin until shortly before 5am Sunday morning.

So - should I stay up late to watch the Hatton fight (not worried about undercard fights as I can Sky+ it and watch it later on) or set my alarm and get up early? i.e. what time, roughly, would the Hatton fight be on?

You say the show starts at 9pm but what time is he scheduled to fight in that show?

I don't know - they don't usually say as I think they want you to watch all the undercard fights and pre-fight stuff, which is why I was trying to work out how long it took for the Calzaghe fight to start after the show began, and then assume that the Hatton fight would start after roughly the same amount of time - then work out the time difference. This is when I get confused! :-S

I think the yanks use east coast time when it comes to events like this. i.e. The fight will probably be scheduled to begin at something like 23:00 in New York, even thiugh it is only 20:00 in Vegas. I would guess that Hatton won't be due in the ring until about 04:00 British time.

Thanks both - 04:00 means a "get up early" rather than a "stay up late".

I'm not as young as I used to be, and whereas I used to get in at that time, now it is closer to my cup of tea with the morning news time....... LOL

Okay, so the Calzaghe fight actually took place at midnight their time and at 5am out time.

The show on Sky for the Hatton fight starts at 9pm our time, if they are 8 hours behind then it would be 1pm their time.

I know nothing about boxing at all, so do they only fight in the evening or in daytime as well?

'Cos if it's only at night it will be the small wee hours before the fight over here. (I think!!)

They tend to have the main fight around 10pm (whether they are fighting in UK or US). I think it is because people used to go to boxing dinners, and so if dinner began at 8pm I guess around 10pm would be when the meal would be coming to an end and you can settle down adn watch a nice punch up with your creme brulee..... I might be wrong, but I am assuming. Nowadays, big fights tend to be at big arenas and stadiums so they don't have the boxing dinner aspect, but they still do boxing dinners locally to me, though not with named fighters.
