If so, try looking up some of the more famous French impressionists. e.g. Camille ********, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Edouard Manet, Berthe Morisot and Degas.
The actual epithet "impressionism" is said to have come from a critic at an exhibition of Monet's works, but was later adopted by the artists themselves as an umbrella term covering all the impressionists' painting techniques.
tricky... you could say they were negatively influenced by the standard painting style of the day, such as big historical paintings done in the studio. They wanted to get outside and paint exactly what they saw and ignore painting conventions - eg they insisted shadows were never really black, which was the colour traditionally used to represent them. They liked the work of Constable (who painted outdoors so faithfully you can tell the weather from the clouds) and Turner, whose work is often more impressionistic than literal. But it's hard to say any movement strongly influenced them; they broke away quite sharply from earlier art... Anyone got any better ideas on this one?
