fixing a light/sensor onto a council house

I've bought my mum a light with movement sensor for her front door .Is it OK to fix this to a council house?

I agree, most council tenants attach loads of similar things to their properties (Sky dishes for one) and they don't get any problems.

I would have thought you were improving security on one of their houses at your own expense anyway so they should be thankful!

I doubt if there would be a problem. If the council were to be really sniffy, they might want the property re-instated to its original condition if your mum moved out.

Not illegal - the 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations enshrined in BS7671:2008 and the associated "Part P" of the building regulations are NOT mandatory or Laws, they are merely guidance for best practice and not following them is not a criminal offence! Only the Electricity At Work Act 1976 is legally enforceable.
