These days, healthy means a balanced diet and as we all know, this should include 5 portions of fruit and veg per day. Without any fruit or veg your diet is no where near 'balanced' and you will be lacking in some vitamin or other.
By the way, I'm like you and am lucky if I eat 5 portions of fruit and veg a week, never mind a day but then I've given up trying to be healthy!
Perhaps you might be able to find new ways of preparing fruit & veg that you'd find preferable?
For example, my other half has always eaten a very limited range of vegetables, but he has found that hated parsnip (usually roasted, sticky and sweet) is actually quite nice, crunchy and acceptable when done in a stir fry. In fact, we eat quite a few "disliked" veg, sliced up small, quickly fried in a little oil in a wok, & served with sauce such as soy.
Have you tried yellow peppers? Quite sweet, juicy and crunchy, can be eaten raw or cooked - the idea being, if you find them acceptable, and eat them every now and then, after a while they do become part of the "will eat" list.
Good luck.
You might start by working out what you NEED to eat - get a list of foods which contain each vitamin and mineral, and tick off the ones you eat. If there are any missing, try and learn to eat one of your yuk foods, or take a supplement if you have to. Get plenty of roughage from wholemeal bread if you don't eat veg, and drink plenty of water too.
Once you've established your "essential foods" list, it will be easier to find recipes that include them. Or just graze - sandwiches, munching on nuts and carrot sticks etc.
Meanwhile Rich, not eating any coloured food except Smarties is an issue you need to take in hand. Most people have a couple of things they don't like, but no veg or FRUIT is very very weird and very wrong. (Tell me about your mother.....)
Also most things can be cooked healthily...for example if you like your fried breakfasts etc you could still have a healthy one...grill lean bacon or veggie sausage...scrambled or poached eggs tin toms beans and mushrooms...you can make anything healthy..just by cooking differently...its all about moderation...stir frys are excellent...Because I am trying not to eat so many carbs a little trick I have found is by stirfrying bean sprouts with veggies etc..I know bean sprout is not a carb but in my mind it is so fills me up like rice...I am cheating my brain if you like...if that makes sense lol |
