Shotguns
After a drunken episode back in January my husband was taken into custody for the night and then released without charge or caution. A week later two heavily armed police offiers arrived at our house and confiscated his 3 twelve bore shotguns which were licenced and safely locked away in a gun cabinet.
There has been no recurrence of this behaviour since then and now we have received a letter from the police stating that the guns will be destroyed on Dec 10th if they are not collected by any person "who has your authority in writing to collect on your behalf".
Can I collect them and return them to our home or is he to be denied the use of them forever? They would be locked away and I would keep the key in a safe place not accessible to him. He would NEVER misuse them and it just seems to me that they are being very heavy handed about all this. I have tried to ring the police property officer but got no reply. Any thoughts would be gratefully received. Thank you.
