Clematis Pixie

Ive just aquired a Clematis Pixie...50p from B&Q.do i cut it hard back as i do with other clematis

Don't claim to be an expert but the more I cut my clematis back the more it grows so I should think it would be the same but be careful of frost .I know they are hardy plants but I would leave it till the spring before I cut it back and believe it or not I still have flowers on my passion flower.

Your C. petriei is a Type 1, early blooming clematis and doesn't require pruning, since it blooms on the previous years growth. If required for habit (maintenance and growth direction control) it may be pruned soon after blooms are spent. Severe pruning can remove next years bloom junctions... It doesn't like wet feet, but is reasonably hardy. Mulch its roots as you would any clematis... If, after three years or so, you want to transplant part of it, you can do so by dividing the rootball.
