Wooden floor in an irregular room.

About to lay a floating wooden floor with laminated planks from a popular store. The room is small and basically rectangular in plan. I assume I ought to run the planks lengthways, parallel with the two long walls. Happily, that also means that the planks run away from the window, as the window is in one of the short walls, and I have read on more than one occasion that this is a good move. However, the room does not have any right-angled corners. So, what is my priority? To make sure that the short ends of the planks run at 90 degrees from one of the short walls? If so, which one? Or to make sure that the long sides of the planks run parallel to one of the long sides? Or another strategy altogether?

I'd say parallel to the long wall that most attracts the eye if you do intend to lay them 'lengthways'. What I would do first is to lay out the planks prior to fitting them, both along and across the room to see what looks best, they don't have to butt up neatly at the edges but it will give you a good idea of what it will look like when finished.

Fitzer's idea is best plan.  If you attempt to "square" the ends on a short wall, the seams will run askew as they progress down the long run.  It will be more pleasing to the eye if the lines run parralell to the long walls.  The boards will have at least 1/4 inch to 3/8ths inch gap (where they abut the walls) all the way around anyway for expansion, which will be covered by the mop board (so called here in the U.S.) which will cover the uneven ends on the short walls...
