lawns

i have mounds all over the lawn.it started about two months ago.the mounds are not very big.at the top of the mounds,there are little modules of mud,shaped like ice cream cornets.when i poke into them there does not seem to be a hole underneath them.the lawn seems to have gone patchy.worm casts have been mentioned. i have not clue .help please or give me remedy.
