Here's a clue from today's crossword ...

Man behind, when the passenger's late (6).

"Late" could mean dead.

Man = HE

Behind = ARSE

Answer ... HEARSE

And that's why I love The Guardian. You don't get clues like that in the stuffy papers (Times, Telegraph, etc).

Very clever cryptic clue, I dont get the Guardian, but I may be tempted if the crossword and clues are as good as that! I am always looking for a midweek crossword after all the Sunday ones!! Is it a prize crossword!
If you think that's good, try The Private Eye crossword, its full of smut and innuendo.

That's a very cryptic clue, you're probably too young to remember but I reckon you'd be able to work out the clues on "321" with Ted Rogers.

No, it's not a prize crossword (except for the "win a dictionary" crossword at the weekend).

But the clues are more fun than in the other papers, and quite often a bit cheeky (like this one).

The crossword seems to get harder as the week goes on. I quite often sit, gazing blankly at the Thursday/Friday crossie, before giving up altogether.

Everton ... it's nice of you to think I might be too young to remember 3-2-1.

Thank you.

But I'm 42.

My kids wanted one of those.. they never did get one though. Deprivation? Does that make me a bad mother?
I clicked on this link, fully expecting a Daily Mail reader rant about loony lefties ! I'm happy to be wrong.

I'm pleased you got a nice surprise, CSIambleside.

Is there much call for CSI in Ambleside?

Bottle of milk stolen from old lady's doorstep?

Man attacked with walking stick?

Mystery offender drops litter?

That sort of thing ... ?
Try googling CSI and ambleside and you'll see where I got my handle from !

Oh, I see ... the name of an album.

That's jolly.

Aww, look ... here's another good one.

Shocking starter inferior - so not this? (7)

Shocking starter = S (first letter)

Inferior = CRUMMY

So a shocking starter which is inferior - is not ...

SCRUMMY !!!

You see ... lots of words that Times readers would not even admit were proper words.
Just to defend The Times, there's lots of great wordplay and use of innovative words. Try this from Saturday, seen as a lot of us on here are doing exactly this.

At the office computer, not working, affected by single crack (13)
