Assault
My mother in law has gone to the police claiming I have assaulted her and i'm going to a police interview on tuesday.
Following a heated argument which involved her waving a knife at me I slapped her. She is saying to my partner that she has dropped the charges but it doesn' appear she has done. I have called the station repeatedly and been told nothing as the officer in charge of the case has been on leave and is now off sick. All I have been told is that I still need to go to the interview on tuesday and if i don't it would be another charge against me. I have never been in trouble before does anyone know where I stand? many thanks in advance

I am ashamed of myself for doing it and letting her get to me like she did. 8 months ago we emigrated to tenerife, things went down the pan and we had to come back to the UK just over 2 months ago. After 2 days with very little sleep and an extremely long journey she had decided that we were staying with her, my partner told her we were staying with my parents and she didn't like it. We get back to her house where she had asked us to do things for her to find out that our cat, who she had offered to take care of until we had him shipped over, had been missing for 3 months and that she hadn't even tried to look for him. It took us over an hour to get this information out of her. We found that she had sold all of our things for him and she started screaming at us that it was only a stupid cat and she didn't want to take care of him, she hoped he was dead and said she wished she strangled the ****** thing. After no sleep an awful plane journey with an 11 month old, 4 trains and her waving a knife i slapped her
Good for you, don't blame you one iota.
go to the interview, appear calm and reasonable and deny the whole bloody thing, it's her word against yours. Tell them there is a history of her not liking you and that you're sorry that she has chosen to involve them in what was simply a row (no slapping). hopefully they should drop it, but keep things simple.

which I know I shouldn't have done and severley regret. she has sent emails to my husband get saying "I'll get such and such on her as they don't use silly little slaps but go for the knockout punch" and then 6 weeks later says she's dropped the charges. This happened over 2 months ago and the police are only interviewing me tomorrow morning. It has been an absoloute storm in a teacup especially as she has done far worse to both her ex husband and my partner.
