Can i get my name put onto my brothers mortgage and replace his ex-fiance's name?

My brother and his fiance bought a house together about 2 years ago. They broke up 6months ago. He is living in the house on his own but they are both still paying the mortgage, is is really starting to put a strain on whatever amicable terms they have. They are trying to sell the house but with the current climate its is proving very difficult. It has been on the market for 6 months now.
I was thinking......could i offer to help my brother out and put my name on the mortgage with him? How difficult would that be? Im 26 and renting at the minute. Would this be the best way to get on the property ladder and help my brother get a clean break from his ex? Or should i just not get involved in case they get back together again.

You and your brother would have to get a new mortgage and the mortgage company would need to be satisfied you could both afford the mortgage, based on your salaries and credit history.
The mortgage company would also revalue the house to check the loan to value ratio
