Who should leave feedback first?
If I am the buyer and I pay promptly then surely the seller should leave me positive feedback before i reciprocate?
I only ask as no feedback has been left for me on my last few auctions.

Very often sellers won't leave feedback until the buyer has done so, as the buyer's feedback is considered to signal the end of the transaction.
As a seller I always leave feedback first; as a buyer I always leave feedback when the goods have arrived and been examined/tested, whether feedback has been left for me or not.
I have been hassled for feedback before and left - here is the feedback you've nagged me for, as I consider it bad manners to ask for feedback.

There are no rules as such but it's generally accepted that the buyer should leave feedback first. This informs the seller that the item has been received and the buyer is happy with the transaction (or not as the case may be, but it's good form to email the seller before leaving feedback if there is a problem).

Rollo and pink-kittens are right in that you don't have to leave feedback, but if you don't you are unlikely to get any back and therefore not build up a good feedback score for yourself. That's if you are remotely bothered about it that is. Unfortunately, since sellers are no longer able to leave neuts or negs, it has become a little meaningless.
Rollo, I have had a business on eBay for several years, with many thousands of PayPal transactions.
I know and understand the rules and make sure I can't be ripped off - as far as is possible. Like all good eBay businesses I factor in these sort of overheads - exactly as I did when I took Visa and Mastercard over the counter. They are subject to chargebacks in exactly the same way

As a buyer I wait until I have the goods checked them out for quality (if it is a dvd or computer game any scratches and happy it works on my machine) then leave feedback
As a seller I expect most buyers to think the same as me, check the goods frist then leave feedback. So I wait at least a week then if nothing, check with the buyer to see if they got the item and they're happy with it. Then I leave my feedback.
Only had one awkward buyer who refused to pay but had dozens who didn't leave feedback at all. Once you have a resonable rep (over 100) it's academic really as long as you pay quickly and post items promptly you will soon build a good rep.
