Aquarium heater positioning

Sorry ABers another daft question re aquariums.
When you position your heater in the tank the whole lot does go under water doesn't it; switch and all? It's just that there's a line on my new combi heater that it says the water must reach, I take it that's as a minimum.

I don't know if your heater is the kind with a round ball shape at the top, but I recently bought a new heater like that. It said on the instructions that the water must reach up to the line, and must not drop below the base of the ball shape. With evaporation the tank needs topping up occasionally, even when the water is not being partially changed. Hope this helps.

Tank heaters can be completely immersed to the wiring. They most certainly must be immersed almost completely. It's okay to leave the temperature control bit at the top sticking out, but the glass must be completely covered at all times otherwise it can crack.

Make sure you turn the heater off and leave it in the water for about 15m before removing it and you not supposed to put your hands in the water while the heater is turned on.
