Hi Ive been offered a 1year old car which is CAT D.. The seller said its because of some vandalism on the side which has been repaired and resprayed. As I understand it CAT D means the insurer deemed it too unviable to repair. But this car would fetch 15k + so it seems strange a few scratches would cause the insurer to write it off.. Am i correct in my thinking?
it would need more than a few vandal scratches to total loss a 15,000 vehicle..is the seller a trader ?
think you need to delve deeper, you need to know exactly whats been done.
check with previous owner or request an AA inspection.. anything that sounds to good to be true usually is..
cat d is the lightest and easiest damage to repair and doesnt require a certificate or inspection by any engineer, this one however seems to good to be true, chas is right, you need to have a good investigation as to why its been written off.
Thanks v much guys.... I investigated further to find it had been stolen and the seller( a trader) cannot provide a full repair report... Like you said if its too good to be true it generally is!! Appreciate your help
