Ihave made white wine some 4 weeks ago, it has now gone very quiet, i.e no bubbles in the air lock, what has gone wrong? and what do you advise I do next?
thanks for the answer pusskins, yes the sediment is at the bottom and the wine does look clear but dont you think this is quite instant if its ready now?
Some wines are a lot quicker than others.
Assuming you've got a warm room, my guess its that its now ready to bottle, seeing as its stopped bubbling through the airlocks.
Can you syphon off just a drop , and give it a taste?
We would do that . good luck
your wine is ready for syphoning now,you need some tubing for that, make sure your bottles are sterilised and don't leave any tops off,not for a minute while you are doing this, the fruit fly will be in in a minute, once it's all bottled put them in the coldest place possible(not the fridge) you will get more sediment at the bottom of bottles syphon once more, another few weeks or less it will be nice and clear and ready for drinking, good luck.
d'you know what pusskin, i'm really looking forward to getting started with this wine making malarky. wish i had a bit more time at the moment, but it'll make it all the more interesting and (hopefully) enjoyable when i do make some. i'm sure i'll be asking lots of questions.
since your posting, my hubbies forced my arm and took me to the shops for another 3 gallons of wine, haha.
wow, its fun making it, and I can see it bubbling away!
here's to a happy hiccupping xmas
