was he interferring with play? (if not why was he on the field?)
It didn't.

Joe Hart the Man City keeper took a direct free kick.

Because the ref is a bitter
That's okay.

This is the place for Sports questions, because the Sports Section is crap.

But sadly ... I don't know the answer to your question.

He got a second yellow card for taking the mickey out of the ref ... but I don't know about the first one.

I think you're wong there Octavius. If the ref blew for hand ball that should have been a free kick to Man City....If he blew for some other incident Ronaldo's hand ball should not have counted.
He had a previous yellow card -he should play to the refs whistle and as a pro he should know the sound by now -the ref was yards away.
It wasnt deliberate IMO but he still hand balled in the penalty area so ref had no option but ti hand out another yellow card thus off.Simple.

Might make him a little less gung ho with his diving in future.

The question is not whether he should have been sent off......It's WHY when the game resumed Man Utd took a corner when it should have been a free kick to Man City
